This project introduces a multi-functional side extension to a detached house, providing a summer house, garage and storage within a cohesive addition. Designed with timber frame construction and a flat roof, the extension complements the existing dwelling while adding practical, flexible space.
Design Concept
The proposal responds to the need for both utility and flexible living. The garage and storage provide everyday functionality, while the summer house offers a calm, adaptable space that enhances the home’s lifestyle. Designed as a multi-purpose retreat, it can function as a home office, guest suite or relaxation space, complete with a self-contained shower room.
Materiality and Integration
The extension uses faced brickwork and brown window frames to match the existing house, maintaining a consistent architectural language. The flat roof profile keeps the addition low and unobtrusive, allowing it to blend naturally with the original structure.
Interior Character
The summer house is designed for flexibility and comfort, with natural light and neutral finishes that adapt to different uses throughout the year. Its connection to the garden creates a calm, private retreat that remains fully integrated with the main home.
